Why do people with brain tumor get headache in the morning?
Intracranial pressure increases in the brain after laying flat all night.
Why does it increase?
Venous congestion increases when you lie down. Whereas, venous flow is enhanced while standing.
Headache is a symptom of increased intracranial pressure, which is why people with brain tumors have headaches which are worse in the morning.
Also, during sleep, carbon dioxide is retained. Carbon dioxide retention often produces morning headaches, possibly related to the cerebral vasodilatation that accompanies hypercapnia.
Sneezing and coughing make it worse, vomiting relieves the headache.
Sorry if im wrong but part of the pathogenesis has something to do with carbon dioxide retention at night increasing the volume of the csf or something also.. not sure if im wrong.
