Hemochromatosis mnemonic

Hey everyone!

Today I had a vignette on hemochromatosis and I could not put the clues together :(
It's interesting how various clinical complaints like erectile dysfunction, hepatomegaly, diabetes, joint pain can be hints to a condition related to iron metabolism!

Here's a mnemonic on hemochromatosis I made so if these things come together again, I just have to think of the magic alphabet, "C"

Carbohydrates (For diabetes mellitus)
Color (For the skin darkening)
Cirrhosis
Coitus (For erectile dysfuntion and amenorrhea secondary to pituitary gland involvement)
Calcium pyrophosphate deposition disese (aka pseudogout!)
Cardiomyopathy (Dilated or restricted cardiomyopathy)
Conduction defects

And if you wanna overdo your fact memorization for the day:
C282Y mutation :P

Fun facts: Did you guys know that patients with hemochromatosis are more likely to be infected with siderophilic organisms? Examples of these include Vibrio vulnificus, Listeria monocytogenes and Yersinia enterocolica.

But life is not all bad, people with hemochromatosis are resistant to plague infections. How? Read moe about it here.

That's all!
