Hyperphosphatemia in chronic kidney disease

This is a really short post :D

What's the mechanism behind hyperphospatemia in kidney disease?

Kidney activates vitamin D.

No vitamin D in renal failure.

Therefore, hypocalcemia.

Hypocalcemia leads to Parathyroid hormone secretion.

PTH increases bone resorption.

Bone resorption increases calcium and phosphate levels in blood.

Phosphate doesn't get excreted by kidney since it's failing.

Hyperphosphatemia.

    this is also called secondary hyperparathyroidism (ca low p high pth high). in ostoemalacia, kidney works.. so: ca low p low pth high
