Hey guys!
As you all know, I'm preparing for USMLE and I wish to do an Internal Medicine residency in the USA. A part of the process for international medical students requires electives, which is, clinical experience in the US.
I am in Cleveland, Ohio in the months of January - April 2016 for my electives.
I will also be coming to Houston, Texas for my USMLE Step 2 CS exam.
If you're around at that time, I would love to meet you. Please come say hi.
For those of you who have been to the US for electives, please let me know do's and dont's. Anything you wish someone had told you prior to the experience.
I will also be blogging about every tiny detail - From preparation to what I experienced - So that it helps someone like me in the future :)
That's all!
Wish me luck and pray for me.
-IkaN
PS: I will not be disclosing the name of the hospital and specialty on the blog. Reason being patient confidentiality and privacy purposes.
Someone COMMENT.!! She is asking you something. 😡
ReplyDeleteOh that's so sweet of you to insist people on helping me out, Kavita :)
DeleteCan you write a post on how you got your elective?
ReplyDeleteYes, I'll be writing one soon!
DeleteSorry, this might sound dumb, but I have still not started the USMLE process so I am not really informed. Do you have to do the electives to be eligible for a residency? Can work experience in India after MBBS be considered instead?
ReplyDeleteSorry for the late reply. Never saw your comment.
DeleteYou have to do electives. You need to show you have experienced the US environment and you like it.
No one would like to give a three year residency to someone who doesn't know how the system works / Will be home sick on the second day of residency and leave.
Hi just came across your blog and it is awesome! i have a few Qs to ask from you, what is the process to apply for elective and can one apply for electives after graduating from medical school? is there any prerequisites like usmle step scores? what was your step scores like? i am an IMG trying to apply for residency in USA thanks
ReplyDeleteYou can't apply after graduation. Yes, you need scores but you can apply without them.
DeleteHi just saw your post and was wondering if u did write a post on how u applied and got your electives?
ReplyDeleteIt would be very helpful if u could post thanks
I will try to post it since many of you are requesting.
DeleteSo much to do, so little time.
