Thalassemia blood picture mnemonic

Here's a mnemonic on the peripheral blood smear findings seen in Thalassemia!


The mnemonic is, "THAL"
Target cells
Hemolytic anemia
Howell Jolly bodies
Anisocytosis
Low MCV (Microcytic, hypochromic anemia)

    Low MCV but almost Normal RBC count------> thalasemia
    Low MCV but less RBC cout ----------------->iron def Anemia
