Transmission factor practice question

Assume there is an initial radiation level of 15 R/hr inside a facility. The walls of the facility are constructed with tungsten, having a 30% transmission factor, and fiberglass, with an 80% transmission factor. How much radiation reaches outside the facility?

We start with an initial radiation level inside the facility of 15 R/hr. The facility walls are made of tungsten with a 30% transmission factor and fiberglass with an 80% transmission factor.

The formula to calculate the radiation level outside the facility (out) is:

out=in×tungsten×fiberglass

Substitute the values:

out=15R/hr×0.3×0.8

out=3.6R/hr

Therefore, 3.6 R/hr of radiation would reach outside the facility after passing through walls with tungsten (30% transmission) and fiberglass (80% transmission).
