Lipoprotein A and Thrombosis

It is a well known fact that Lipoprotein A is a cardiovascular risk factor.
Increased levels of Lipoprotein A causes Thrombotic events.
But why does this happen?
Usually the Plasminogen is converted to Plasmin which breaks down fibrinogen to fibrin causing lysis of the clot.

The structure of lipoprotein A is similar to Plasminogen. Hence increased levels cause replacement of the plasminogen in the blood clots which causes reduced amount of plasmin near the clots and decreased lysis of clots (prothrombotic effect).

Hence lipoprotein A increased levels are a causal factor of thromboembolic diseases.

Thats all,
Ved :)
