Intrinsic muscles of the hand mnemonic

Hello!
A short post on intrinsic muscles of the hand :)

The intrinsic muscle groups are:
- Thenar
- Hypothenar
- Interossei muscles
- Lumbrical muscles

Mnemonic for thenar and hypothenar muscles - "All For One And One For All"

Thenar group:
A: Abductor pollicis brevis
F: Fexor pollicis brevis
O: Opponens pollicis

A: Adductor pollicis

Hypothenar muscles:
O: Opponens digiti minimi
F: Flexor digiti minimi
A: Abductor digiti minimi

All intrinsic muscles of the hand are innervated by ulnar nerve, except LOAF muscles which are innervated by median nerve.
L: 2 Lateral Lumbricals
O: Opponens pollicis
A: Abductor pollicis brevis
F: Fexor pollicis brevis

Oh and last mnemonic, PAD DAB
Palmar interossei ADduct
Dorsal interossei ABduct

That's all!
You can't always be strong, but you can always be brave.

  1. Thank you very much! Very helpful. However, isn't the Palmaris Brevis muscle part of the hypothenar muscles as well?
