It is a physiologic and a Pathologic phenomenon.
There are 2 pathways of apoptosis-
A. Extrinsic pathway- a/ w activation of caspase 8
B. Intrinsic pathway- a/w activation of caspase 9
Most striking feature- Absence of inflammation.
Earliest feature- Cell shrinkage
Most characteristic feature- Nuclear pyknosis
