Menstrual cycle and related problems

Here are some common menstural complaints that I studied today during my posting that I would like to share with you. There are many more though. Comment if you think I have missed out on something!
1) Normal menstruation cycle is of 21-35 days and normal blood loss is 35-40ml
If blood loss increases above 80ml we term it excessive bleeding.

2) Dysmenorrhea: Painful menstruation.
There are two types of dysmenorrhea:
Primary dysmenorrhea: Of unknown cause.
Secondary dysmenorrhea: Cause is known, usually treated with NSAIDS and with painkillers (No surgery).

3) Endometriosis: Sometimes endometrium lodges into the other parts of the genital tract.
It can lodge into broad ligament, ovary etc
Sometimes endometrium lodges into myometrium this is called as adenomyosis .
Endometriosis usually causes dysmenorrhea.

4) Uterine polyps: They are abnormal masses in uterus. They are usually benign and rarely progress to cancer. Polyps can be surgically removed using curettage. Gonadotropin releasing hormone agonists & progestins can also be used for treatment.

5) Chronic pelvic inflammatory disease:
It is inflammation of the upper reproductive parts of female like ovary, uterus, fallopian tubes. It is normally caused due to gonorrhea / chlamydia bacteria.
