Trisomy 18 is the second most common autosomal trisomy after trisomy 21. Here's a mnemonic for it!
Characterized by:
E: Elongated skull (Occipital prominence),
dysplastic Ears, Microcephaly, High forehead are also seen.
D: Digital overlapping
Clubfoot, clenched fist, Overlapping fingers, Hypoplastic nails
W: Ventricular septal defect (VSD) is most common (90 % have structural heart defect)
A: Apneic episodes (Mostly die early because of central apnea)
R: Rocker bottom feet (Persian slipper, congenital vertical talus)
Intrauterine Growth Retardation (IUGR)
D: Intellectual Disability
