Medicollabowesome: AIDS - Symptomatic phase association with CD4 count


Through this post I am describing the Symptomatic phase of AIDS in which I will discuss various clinical manifestations and its association with CD4 counts.

CD4 counts < 500 cells /mm3
Mucocutaneous lesions
HSV
Seborrheic dermatitis
Oral hairy leukoplakia (EBV)
Candidiasis (oral, esophageal, vaginal)
Kaposi's Sarcoma
Tuberculosis
Recurrent bacterial pneumonia
Lymphoma

CD4 counts < 200 cells/mm3
Pneumocystis Pneumonia
Visceral Kaposi's Sarcoma
Local or disseminated fungal infections (Cryptococcus neoformans, Coccidiodes immitis)

CD4 counts < 100 cells /mm3
Progressive multi focal leukoencephalopathy (PML)
CNS Toxoplasmosis

CD4 counts < 50 cells /mm3
CMV Infections (Retinitis, Colitis, CNS disease)
Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC)
Invasive aspergillosis
Bacillary angiomatosis (Disseminated Bartonella)
Primary CNS lymphoma
