Acute type-II respiratory failure causes mnemonic


Causes of Acute type-II Respiratory failure mnemonic:

- Drugs ( respiratory depressants; like diazepam, opiates, alcohol)
- Encephalitis
- Poliomyelitis (affecting respiratory muscles)
- R
- Exacerbation of COPD
- Spinal cord disorders (spinal trauma, transverse myelitis, acute GBS, MG, botulism)
- Stroke ( brainstem damage)
- Injuries to chest (tension pneumothorax, massive hemothorax, flail chest)
- Obstructive lung disease (severe acute asthma, laryngeal and tracheal obstruction)
- Neurologic disorders
