Classical Findings of RDS Infant!

Hi awesomites, Jay here! This is a short description on Classical clinical findings of a Neonatal Respiratory Distress Syndrome(RDS or NRDS) infant.

  1. Preterm but appropriate weight for Gestational age
  2. Male
  3. Diabetic mother
  4. C-section birth
  5. Second of the Twins
The clinical presentation has a stereotypical pattern too. as follows

Resuscitation at Birth --> Normalized Breathing and Color in few minutes --> Within 30min breathing becomes harder again --> Cyanosis in few hours --> Fine rales in both lungs --> Uniform reticulogranular densities in CXR (Ground glass Picture) --> if not resolved --> Increased Cyanosis --> Ventilation fails even in 80% Oxygen --> If not saved, Death in 3-4 days :(

Point : If the infant is survived for at least 4+ days, there is an excellent prognosis for recovery.

That's all folks,
With love,

Jay
