Hey everyone!
I modified the mnemonic I had for the MEN syndromes to make them work for me =)
Here it goes -
Mnemonic for MEN I: "I pee."
For MEN I, remember the P's.
Pituitary, Parathyroid, Pancreas.
One sounds like, "Won", reminding us that MEN I is also known as Wermer's syndrome.
Mnemonic for MEN IIA: "I am meant to sit in an AC room."
For MEN IIA, remember the C's.
Calcitonin, Calcium, Catecholamines.
I think of "2 ASS" to memorize MEN 2A is also known as Sipple Syndrome.
Mnemonic for MEN IIB:
"Every man wants to be a Pharaoh with a Medium Car on Mars with the New Romans."
Pheocytochroma, Medullary carcinoma, Marfan's syndrome, Neuromas.
I made an illustration for this too xD
To sum it all up,
MEN I -
Pituitary adenomas
Parathyroid hyperplasia
Pancreatic islet cell tumors (gastrinoma, insulinoma, glucagonoma)
MEN IIA -
Medullary Carcinoma of the thyroid (elevated Calcitonin)
Parathyroid hyperplasia (elevated Calcium levels)
Pheochromocytoma (elevated Catecholamines)
MEN IIB -
Pheocytochroma
Medullary carcinoma of the thyroid
Marfanoid habitus
Mucosal Neuroma
"Retired men" is the mnemonic I use to remember the mutation..
Mutations in RET receptor tyrosine kinase proto-oncogene results in multiple endocrine neoplasia.. RET-Tyr-ed MEN!
That's all!
It's my first illustration on Medicowesome & I hope you like it! <3
The illustration mnemonic reminds me of the show, "Two And A Half Men" =P
The Pharaoh looks like Charlie Harper & the New Roman looks like Alan Harper (just sayin')
*sings*
"Men men men men, manly men men men!
Men men men men, manly men men men!
Men men men men, manly men, oo hoo hoo, hoo hoo, oo.
Men men men men, manly men men men!
Men men men men, manly men men men!
Men ..."

ReplyDeleteThanks a lot
ReplyDeleteYou're most welcome! :)
DeleteMEN 4 has also been included in the latest medicine books...
ReplyDeleteOh really? Can you tell us more about it?
DeleteNo problem!
ReplyDeleteTwo and half men touch is weirdly amazing.
ReplyDeletePPP MPP MNP
ReplyDeleteMEN2B also has megacolon so we can add mega medium cars there
ReplyDeleteDeveloping the Pharaoh idea (which I've found really useful,) 'MEN IIA means A pharaoh parachuting in a medium car.' (PHAechromocytoma, PARAthyroid hyperplasia, MEDullary thyroid carcinoma
ReplyDelete'MEN I is a GI parachuting into a pit.' (Gastro-Intestinal related tumours, PARAthyroid hyperplasia, PITuitary ademonas. You can get some great AI pictures to make it more memorable!
