Burkitts lymphoma mnemonic
Hey everyone!
A quick "things to remember" list about Burkitts lymphoma for tests!
- B cell lymphoma (B for Burkitts, B for B cells!)
- All types of Burkitt's lymphoma are characterized by disregulation of the c-myc gene.
- Myc (c-Myc) is a regulator gene that codes for a nuclear transcription factor.
- The most common variant is t(8;14).
- The "starry sky" appearance on histology
- It is due to scattered tingible body-laden macrophages (macrophages containing dead body of apoptotic tumor cells).
The mnemonic *drum roll*

Plasmodium species that have a dormant liver form (hypnozoites) mnemonic
Hey everyone!
There are 4 Plasmodium species - P. falciparum, P. malariae, P. vivax and P. ovale.
Did you know that P. vivax and P. ovale have a dormant stage (hypnozoites) that can persist in the liver? It can cause relapses by invading the bloodstream weeks, or even years later!

Peroneal nerve branches and foot drop mnemonic
"Super everter, deep dorsiflexer."
Superficial peroneal nerve (superficial fibular nerve) supplies the fibularis longus (peroneus longus) and fibularis brevis (peroneus brevis). These muscles evert the foot.
The deep fibular nerve (deep peroneal nerve) supplies the tibialis anterior, extensor digitorum longus, fibularis (peroneus) tertius, and extensor hallucis longus (propius). These muscles dorsiflex the foot.
Foot drop is due to deep peroneal nerve palsy. You can remember Drop and Deep as they both start with D.
The skin over the greater part of the dorsum of the foot is supplied by the superficial fibular nerve with the exception of the first web space, which is innervated by the deep peroneal nerve.

Leptin thin. Ghrelin gobble. Mnemonic.
Leptin makes you wanna be thin.

Difference between primary biliary cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis mnemonic
Greetings people!
Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC).. Because both have the word primary and are associated with the hepatobiliary system, it's easy to mix em up.
Here's how I keep them straight -

Alkaptonuria and Albinism enzymes mnemonic
So I confuse things easily. Especially syndromes involving two opposite looking diseases.. I feel so silly at times. Often, when I realize my lil mistakes, I am left with two options.. Cry or make a mnemonic to make sure it won't happen again!
You know who I share the second option with ;)

Clearance of inulin and para-aminohippuric acid mnemonic
Inulin stays INside the tubules (neither secreted nor reabsorbed).
That is why, the clearance of Inulin is equal to the glomerular filtration rate (GFR).
PAH is PAssed to tubules (completely secreted).
That is why, the clearance of para-aminohippuric acid is equal to the renal plasma flow.

How to remember digoxin is renally excreted
"diGOxin needs to GO."
This helps me remember that you need to go and pee digoxin and hence it is renally excreted! =D
Remember one and the other one is the other one.. Digitoxin uses the hepatic route of metabolism.

Antifungal drugs (with mechanism of action) mnemonic
Hola! Me again!
Drugs and their mechanisms can be difficult to remember.. I like pairing the action with the drug name to make it easy. We are doing anti-fungals today (Yaay!)
Mr. Ampho tears holes in the fungal membrane.
Mister rhymes with Nyster and it reminds me of Nystatin. Ampho is Amphotericin.
The word "Squatter" reminds me that Squalene epoxidase is inhibited by terbinafine.

Oxygen saturation mnemonic
I imagine Hemoglobin as a seat for oxygen to sit on. The RBC is like a bus and wohhoo travels the oxygen to it's destination!
Anyway..
If something doesn't allow oxygen to sit on it seat decreases O2 saturation.
Sit - seat - sat, get it?
Carbon monoxide sat on oxygen's seat. O2 saturation decreases in CO poisoning.

We'll be learning about drugs that are used in Parkinson's disease.
Drugs and their mechanisms are hard to remember because they are soo many! I like pairing the action with the drug name to keep it simple!

Left testicular vein drains into (Mnemonic)
Hey guys!
Did you know that the right gonadal vein, right suprarenal vein and the right inferior phrenic vein drain into the Inferior Vena Cava?
Really? Then where do the left sided veins drain?
Left renal vein!
How do I remember this? @_@
I use the "RIVer" buzzword to remember Right sided veins drain into the IVC.
The fact that the left gonadal vein (testicular vein) drains in the left renal vein is particularly high yield because 98% of idiopathic varicoceles occur on the left side.
